(1–5) O Creator of images without (using) hands and fingers, have pity on my wretched image, for it has turned into dust. Lord, you fashioned me through your love, and according to your own image you made me. You humbled me because I sinned against you, throwing me on the soil of death. Forgive me as it were with the thief, whom you answered from the top of the cross. May your love offer petition, so that I may enter with him into Paradise. Death entered my body members, spreading fear in my bones. It strengthened my bonds and fetters and reduced my friends and loved ones. Your servant is wretched and weak, rational though not unlike the dumb one. Beyond him are worms and insects, and his loss is not felt. (6–10) My Lord: the deacon who served you, in the day of your Judgment do not sadden him; do not make your sweetness bitter for him; do not say to him: Go, cursed one! (I) Ēlīā your servant, ransomed by your blood and saved by your killing: it pleased you to die on my behalf (and so) do not be unmindful that I may live through you. (Epilogue:) Calculate the year (of death) according to (the era of) beloved Christ from the final two lines: According to (the era of) the birth of the Son of the Most High, Ēlīā left our world for that which is above. (Garsh.) Yūsif son of Qass Farancīs bought this tomb located inside bayt al-ṣalāt, with the agreement of the congregation of Mār Ēša‛iā. His brothers are buried in it, and it became the permanent property of the descendents of the family Qass Farancīs; the year 186[0] of Christ.
