Hover a word for its meaning. Glosses draw on Amir Harrak’s translations and the SEDRA 3 Syriac lexicon (Beth Mardutho), used for academic purposes.

(1-5) O Christ, give rest through your mercy to Bishop Mār Loransiōs, forgive all his transgressions and clothe his soul with a garment of light. He served the See of Selōk at the Metropolitan rank (6-10) for thirty-three years. In 1853, some reason required him to come to Mosul to the Patriarch. He fell ill in the village of Karamlēš and before reaching the patriarchal palace he died outside the city gate in the month of Āb (August) of the same (11) year.

Location Detail Courtyard in the gallery. Ḥaddād placed it in the church of St Meskentā (AA.05) on the outer wall of the church near the door of the diaconicon. One wonders why the inscription would be transferred to the nearby church of Šim‛ūn al-Safā if the commemorated person was buried in the church of St. Meskentā.
