The Syriac Orthodox Church of Mār Tūmā; Extreme south wall , Old Mosul

(1-5) We beg the merciful Lord, our Most Holy God, to place our Father Mattī the mafriān in Paradise. In the year 2038 of Alexander king of the Greeks, the 20th day in the month of Aylūl (September), lo brothers! This prelate, our Father the mafriān departed (6-10) from this temporary world to the delightful world. We ask our forgiving and sublime Lord, to cause him to dwell in the place of the delightful Paradise. This compassionate Father delivered the (Good) News of the Trinity, working hard for it and teaching it with a joyful heart. (11-14) He fasted, prayed and kept vigil in the love of Christ, remaining late and rising early, and multiplied (the offering of the divine) Sacrifice. The Lord of humankind will call upon him with clear voice: Come in, take delight with me and rest.
