Storeroom near the New Church , Qaraqōš

(1-5) In the name of the Living God, the Trinity and o[nly One] whose throne is in heaven, and whose abode is the magnificent light. He is the beginning and the end, and his being has no beginning. Through his everlasting love he sent his eternal Son as he wanted. The Son put on himself the human body out of the nature of Adam. He died (6-10) and rose up on the third day and ascended and sat in Heaven on that glorious throne. He will come again on the last day to judge the human race. The honourable priest, of sweet name and pleasant melody, adherent of the Orthodox faith, (11-15) the late Priest Afrēm of the tribe Bēt-‛Adwat (8-9) left this world and departed to the spiritual world. He who reads thi<s> epitaph, let him say: Lord Forgiver, pardon the soul of this priest. Let the Mother of God and all the saints be remembered, amen. He died in the year (16-19) 1871 of Christ. This grave is of [the priest] Afrēm, his son Gēwōrgīs the Deacon, [and his son] Kōšābā, Deacon ‛Abd-(al)-Masīh, Su, Ḥannō, and Šem‘ūn. The end, amen.
