English Translation

(1-5) Praise for the Good One the ever-trustworthy! Our Brother the monk departed from this ephemeral world. He drowned in the waters of ‛Aynō d-Garbō because of the smell of sulphur. He worked and toiled without stop in this holy monastery for five years. He shone through the virtues of which he was rich. (6-9) When we heard the news of his death, we shed tears abundantly in sorrow. Lord, forgive the trespasses of your servant and accept him in the Bridal Chamber full of light. Ya‛qūb son of the (Jerusalem) Pilgrim Īlō, of Mosul City, departed on 15 Tammūz (July), in the year 1914 of our Lord.
